Where clubbing in Ibiza all began…

For an island steeped with such clubbing heritage, it’s difficult to justify the words “rite of passage” for clubbers who come to Ibiza to experience a super club in all its glory.
However, Amnesia without doubt holds that position.

Amnesia Ibiza History
Amnesia began life as an 18th century farmhouse (or “finca”) that was home to the Plannells family for over five generations. It’s located adjacent to San Rafael on the highway between San Antonio and Ibiza Town, very much in the center of the island.
In 1970, the Planells family sold the finca to a widow from an aristocratic background. After the post Spanish Civil War hippy invasion of the island in the 60s, it was in the 70s where tourism began to boom in Ibiza.
A man from Madrid named Antonio Escohotado made a deal with the landlady in May 1976 to lease the house for 20,000 pesetas (€120) per month.
“The Workshop of Forgetfulness” (“El taller de los olvidadizos”) gave way to the Greek word that summed it up more simply: Amnesia.
Escohotado wanted a name that would epitomise what the house allowed people to do: go out at night, forget their problems, in a place far far away from normal life. “The Workshop of Forgetfulness” (“El taller de los olvidadizos”) gave way to the Greek word that summed it up more simply: Amnesia.
Amnesia has remained one of Ibiza’s most important clubs for over five decades. The sound of the Balearic Beat is closely associated with the club’s music policy in the 80s and its resident DJ Alfredo.
In the last 20 years, the emergence of popular parties Cream and Cocoon have cemented Amnesia’s status as one of the most important clubs in Ibiza, and indeed worldwide.
Club Information
Capacity, Layout & Rooms
Amnesia’s capacity is 5,000. It is the second largest superclub on the island behind Privilege.
Clubbers choose between two rooms: the gigantic terrace on your left when you arrive, and the smaller club room to your right.
Balconies in both rooms offer VIP access including table service.
Typically you can expect to pay an extra €20 on top of your ticket entry price for balcony access at the club, giving you a better vantage point of the dancefloors below.
Production
Amnesia uses a KV2 Audio sound system (installed in 2017), and a 3D lighting system by MADRIX.
The club has two ice cannons, one in each room. They are epic [check out a video of them in action here].
Amnesia VIP
In both the Main Room and La Terraza, you’ll find VIP tables on the upstairs balconies, surrounding the room and facing toward to DJ booth. Most tables cater for up to 5 guests.
Compared to other clubs, VIP tables at Amnesia are generally more discreet and private. Some clubs put VIP almost front and center in the dancefloor, but that’s not the case with Amnesia. And perhaps that’s what you’re looking for with your VIP experience in Ibiza?
“Mind blowing ice cannons, terrace parties till sunrise, and some of the most impressive lineups on the island”
- Amnesia gets very busy, especially for its most popular party elrow. You should plan your arrival time accordingly. The dancefloor will be busiest from 1-3am.
- If you want to avoid the crowds, consider paying for balcony access. It normally costs an extra €20 on top of your ticket price and you will get a better vantage point.
- Be ready to party. Unless you’re VIP there isn’t really anywhere to take a breather at Amnesia, and the smoking area is essentially the back of the car park. You didn’t come to Ibiza to sit down at a club all night anyway though, right?!
